The WOLVES OF ODIN webcomic begins!

Today's a big day for me and for "Wolves of Odin" fans, because it marks the official start of the webcomic. From this point on, I'll be trying my best to post a new page every monday and friday. If you have friends who are into fantasy or Norse mythology or the supernatural or just comic books in general, tell 'em all about the webcomic - send 'em the link! Help spread the word. Finally the saga of vikings and werewolves continues, and I've got quite a few fun surprises on the way. (And, of course, if you haven't picked up the first volume yet, what are ya waitin' for? Now's the time to get caught up!)

So go add WolvesOfOdin.com to your bookmarks and enjoy the ride.

The WHITE ALBUM ~~ Limited Offer

The WHITE ALBUM debuted at Comic-Con last week! For those that don't know, it's a 62-page hardcover book featuring thirteeen different artists showcasing original pieces inspired by the songs of the Beatles. I have to say, it turned out beautifully - I'm really proud to be a part of it. Whether you're a lifelong Beatles fan or just an admirer of all art styles and medium, this is one you'll want to have for your bookshelf. :)

I was able to get a few copies signed by my fellow artists, so I wanted to offer up a special limited time deal:

For $300 you can get one of the books that are signed by all thirteen artists (each artist's section has been autographed near their bio). And you get FOUR PAGES of ORIGINAL BEATLES ART by me -- one page per band member (two on the opening spread of the book/inside cover and first page, and two on the back spread/last page and inside back cover). You can choose whether you'd like the Beatles to be drawn in a more photorealistic style, a comic-art style, or a super-cartoony/trippy style. I'll be pretty open to what you'd like done with your Beatles portraits.

Or for $200 you can get a book that's signed by me and includes the four pages of artwork as described above. These ones will NOT have autographs from the other artists.

If you're interested in either the Complete Group Mega-Offer or the Grant Gould Solo Special, send me an email at grantgoboom@gmail.com and write "WHITE ALBUM" in the subject line. I'll give you Paypal payment info and we can further discuss what you'd like, if you have any questions, etc. Thanks, everyone! Be sure to inquire soon, because I only have a few of these books left.

The WHITE ALBUM artist team (L to R): Russell Walks, Gabe Hernandez, John Watkins-Chow, Nicole Falk, Grant Gould, Paul Michael Kane, Meghan McMahon, Leah, Mangue, Spencer Brinkerhoff III, Matt Busch, Jeff Pitarelli, T.C. Cor. (Not pictured: Jamie Snell)

Comic-Con Wrap-Up

I uploaded a photo gallery -- you can check it out right here.

Lots of cool things at this year's show, including the debut of the 'Clone Wars' season 2 trailer:

I spoke to Pablo (my Lucasfilm editor/writer) a bit about the upcoming webcomics - I'm really excited to get started on those. People seemed to be digging Wolves of Odin and I did my best to get the word out about the webcomic starting this friday. The White Album also did really well - everyone enjoyed it quite a bit, and it was a blast hanging out with the other artists who participated in the book.

BIG THANK YOU to everyone that came by my table and bought stuff. And it was great seeing old friends, fellow artists, internet pals, etc.

Now to get ready for Chicago... @.@

Comic-Con: This Week

Soon I will be on my way to the land of perfect weather.

If you're attending Comic-Con, come find me in Artists' Alley at table CC-17. I'll have copies of The White Album (a debut no Beatles fan will wanna miss!), my 2009 sketchbook, my exclusive 11x17 Hermione print, 8x10 prints of the new 'Wolves of Odin' webcomic promo art, and lots more. Unfortunately I didn't get a bunch of pre-drawn pieces done like I'd originally hoped, but I am bringing some of my Clone Wars comic pages to sell, so at least there'll be some original art for the Star Wars lovers. I will be doing $20 b&w headshot sketches at the show, too, pretty much on a first come, first served basis -- get there as early as ya can to get on the list.

I'll be spending the first hour of each day (excluding Preview Night) at the Super Real Graphics booth, #5331. "Wolves of Odin" will be on sale there, along with Pulp Girls and all sorts of cool stuff.

I'm looking forward to the craziness -- hopefully it'll be another great year at Comic-Con. I'll be back in about a week with photos and artwork. Thanks for your support, everyone! Peace 'n' loooove!

Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince

Half-Blood Prince is essentially one long prelude to the events coming in Book 7. It sets up crucial plot points. I thought they did a great job of turning a not-very-action-packed chapter in the HP series into an entertaining movie. I liked it a lot. The ending left me wanting more, and that's a good thing. "Deathly Hallows" (the big finale, which is being split into two movies) is by far my favorite book in the series, so I'm excited. The filmmakers have proven that they know what they're doing and the actors have grown into their roles. It's one of those rare series that actually gets better and more mature as it goes.

Everyone's favorite know-it-all

Large 11"x17" high-quality prints of this Hermione drawing will be available at my San Diego Artists' Alley table. Limited to 30 signed & numbered copies, $20 each.

Custom BoShek Mugg for Charity

The Empire Muggs Back: Art for a Mighty Good Cause
Lucasfilm asked popular artists, comic book creators, toy designers and celebrities to take blank Mighty Muggs (donated by Hasbro) and transform them into their favorite Star Wars characters. The Muggs will be on display at this month's San Diego Comic-Con and then auctioned off by The Make-A-Wish Foundation.

My contribution was BoShek - one of my favorite SW characters, and probably one of the least-known (thank you, SW:CCG, for introducing us). :P

Thumbnails of Odin

Thought I'd show some of the process behind my recent Wolves of Odin pic. Top left is the thumbnail for her pose. Like a lot of other illustrators, I hated doing thumbnails when I first started out. I felt that going straight to the final page was faster and more natural, more energetic. Well, I was wrong. I've really learned to embrace thumbnailing stuff out before I start my pencils. I just grab a notepad and any old pen and scribble until I get a decent stick-figure-ish framework. Then I scan it in, blow it up to full page size, print it out, and use a lightbox to pencil over the thumbs. Sounds like a lot of work, but it actually saves me time. If I go straight to the final page, I end up erasing and re-drawing every little body part fifty times over.

Anyway, so there's a peek at the thumbnail and pencilwork for that particular pose.

Comic-Con is about a week away and it's holy crap crunch time. Huge thank you to everyone that took advantage of my pre-order offer!

I'll be back with a couple more updates before the big show, so check back soon. :)
(Rumor has it there's some little movie about wizards coming out this week...)

Some Lovin' on YouTube

My Finnish pal Jarmo, who has been a big supporter of my stuff and even started up a Facebook page for fans of my work, recorded himself talking about "Wolves of Odin" and my "Quantum of Sarlacc" sketchbook. He's always looking for ways to help promote me, and it's extremely flattering and awesome. Jarmo, you're the best, man - I really appreciate it. :)

ANNOUNCEMENT:

Beginning July 31st, 2009, the WOLVES OF ODIN saga continues in an all-new webcomic format! Two new pages every week, free for everyone to enjoy online.

Out of anger, Odin, Father of the Norse Gods, unleashed three unstoppable beasts upon mankind. But Thor, God of Thunder, interfered with Odin's plans and aided a warrior named Tyr by giving him the power he needed to ultimately defeat the wolves. Thus the battle ended, but in the aftermath, other events were set in motion.

The spiteful witch Bergthora has given rise to a new breed of werewolf. They can shapeshift at will and hide among the north-men, drawing strength from the Earth itself. They are a threat to not only humanity, but to the gods as well. A war is coming.
