Wolves, Dragons and Unruly Inboxes

Behold my new baby: The MacBook Pro - or as I'm going to call it, "The WolfMac!" ;P

My old Powerbook G4, which I've been using for the past 7 years, was getting slower and more crotchety by the day. I needed to upgrade. So, yeah, computer shopping and switching-over is one reason why I've been so behind on emails this past week. Another reason is because after Celebration V, my inbox was FLOODED with messages. And another reason is because I've been super busy trying to finish up some Clone Wars page colors and the latest Topps set (Clone Wars: Rise of the Bounty Hunters). So, yeah - hopefully in the next few days I can head to a coffee shop or something and tackle my inbox without any interruptions.

Couple other things --
I've had people asking me about DragonCon. Unfortunately I'm not going this year. I'd really love to, but it just isn't in the cards.

I am, however, going to be at the Chicagoland Entertainment Collectors Expo, which is September 9th - 12th. I'll post more info on that in a few days. Should be a fun show.

Thanks for being patient, folks! Hopefully I'll have some new art to show ya soon, too. Oh, and don't forget to check out my LAST original badge pieces from CV! Surely there are a few Aayla and Grievous fans out there who want to own a piece of Star Wars convention history. *plug plug* :)

Star Wars Celebration Badge Artwork

Now that the show's over, I can post these --

These last two weren't part of the regular set of 17 -- They were for the special V.I.P. packages. Aayla was for the "Jedi Knight" badge and Mace was for the "Jedi Master" badge. You can read more about the V.I.P. packages over here.

CV Badge Art Originals - almost gone!

I have 3 left (out of the 19 pieces I created for the official Star Wars Celebration badges). If you're interested in buying one, they're 300 each. Shoot me an email at grantgoboom@gmail.com with "CV BADGE ORIGINAL" in the subject line.

These are the 3 that are still available:

Captain Rex

General Grievous

Threepio

Star Wars Celebration Recap

I'm back from Celebration V in Orlando -- I want to thank everyone for such an amazing, fun show! I had a wonderful time, and it was cool seeing so many fans, fellow artists, friends, etc. Here's a brief recap showing a few of the highlights from the past week --

One of the first things I did was head over to the Her Universe booth to give Ashley Eckstein (the voice of Ahsoka) a copy of my CV print. She loved it and was a total sweetie as always. :)

It was good to see Jason and Jimmy again - of the ForceCast fame, of course - and Dave Filoni, director of the Clone Wars. They're all great guys.

I was actually interviewed by the ForceCast twice during the show. The first one is up right now (click here). And the second one is a group interview with me and Pablo, Tom, Katie, and Jeff -- I'd imagine the episode will be up shortly.

The lovely and talented Shea Standefer decided to rest on my table for awhile... I was not complaining...

I brought my remaining original drawings for the CV badges - These are the two guys who bought the Mace and Yoda pieces.

P.S. I have four badge originals left -- Only 4 out of 19! Aayla, Grievous, Rex, and Threepio are still available. Shoot me an email if you're interested - grantgoboom@gmail.com :)

We had two signings at Tom's booth for the "Clone Wars: Season 1" webcomic trade paperback (which people LOVED - the book was a huge hit). Here's a group shot of us -- Back row: Tom Hodges and Jeff Carlisle. Front row: Pablo Hidalgo, Katie Cook, and me.

A couple great Ahsokas that stopped by my table.

My badges were displayed as a set in the gift shop -- I believe they were selling 200 sets at the show. They might be selling sets on Star Wars Shop too, but I'm not sure yet.

And of course it was great to see Steve Sansweet again.

My trusty booth babe/assistant: my cousin Emily. She really helped me out with the whole show - I couldn't have done it without her. And her husband Mike was with -- he did some volunteering up in the family room. I had a lot of fun with Mike and Emily, as always.

Me with R2 master Chris Simonds. I can't pass up the opportunity to get a pic with my favorite droid!

My favorite girl Mary was a huge hit with her Sith Witch Nightsister costume (pictured above). She won the Costume Contest and was featured on the front page of StarWars.com! I was really proud. :)

And finally -- I got to meet Mark Hamill. Luke Skywalker himself. One of my childhood heroes. I was a little worried that he'd be a jerk or something - ya never know how these celebrity types will be. But he was completely nice and really charming, and it was an awesome experience.

So yeah... GREAT show over all. I liked Orlando (aside from the insane heat and humidity). The convention center was perfect. I wouldn't mind if Celebration 6 was held there again. I didn't get to see as much of the show as I would've liked, but that's okay - Sunday was going to be my "leave the table and look around" day, but it ended up being really busy, so I stayed. Busy is a good thing! So no complaints.

Now to catch up on some sleep and slowly return to the real world...

Orlando-Bound!

I'm off to spend a week in HOT Orlando for Star Wars Celebration V! I won't be online much (if at all), so I shall talk to you all again next week. :)

Those of you going to CV: I'm lookin' forward to seeing you at the show!

Drawing For Younglings - and 2 book signings

Two quick things I wanted to mention, for those of you going to Celebration V --

1)
I'll be hosting a class on Thursday, August 12th (from 2 - 3pm) called "Drawing For Younglings." It'll be located in the Star Wars Family Room at CV (you can check the program when you arrive for additional details). It'll be a laid-back, family-friendly hour of me teaching kids how to draw all sorts of Star Wars characters in a fun, cartoony style. :)

2)
The Clone Wars webcomics from season 1 are finally being collected into a trade paperback, and TRUST ME, you're gonna want to buy one. They only made a LIMITED NUMBER, and they are stinkin' awesome. You'll be able to get it signed by me and the rest of the creative team at two different points during the show -- Saturday at 2pm and Sunday at 10am, over at Tom Hodges' booth (#536). You can also get your hands on a free exclusive poster - either 'heroes' or 'villains' - drawn by Tom and colored by me! You can find more info over here.

... As for my 'Draw Clone Wars' book, there isn't an official signing time for that, since it came out a while ago. But Bonnie Burton and I will both be pretty easy to find at the show, so if you have a copy, bring it on down. We'd be more than happy to sign it for ya! :)

Good Hunting

My FAAYYvorite girl from my FAAYYvorite show ever. :)

Speaking of which - If any of you are G.I. Joe fans and haven't watched 'Resolute' yet, go get the DVD and check it out! It's awesome.

Lord of the Rings - GG/OF style!

I'd been wanting to do a collab piece with my friend (and super-talented rockstar) Otis Frampton for a long time -- so I was really happy he agreed to color this LOTR piece. I provided the inked drawing and then he worked his magical Photoshoppery coloring skills. :)
